Desalination of brackish and sea water

Desalination of brackish and sea water

In arid areas, where natural evaporation is higher than precipitation, drinking water is obtained by desalination of sea water or brackish water. Salt concentration must be reduced from 45,000 ppm to 500 ppm for sea water and from 5,000 ppm for brackish water. Herco offers reverse osmosis units that have been designed especially for brackish or sea water desalination. These units are particularly corrosion-proof and, in the case of sea water desalination units, can resist high pressures and relatively high water temperatures. Our units are able to supply between 20 and 1,000 people with drinking water. A typical application is drinking water extraction for smaller residential units, campsites, and hotels.
